How to turn a client build into a reusable GoHighLevel snapshot
Updated Oct 19, 2026 · 30 min · Intermediate
Clean client-specific data out of a finished sub-account (ideally a template copy), create the snapshot in Agency View > Account Snapshots, share it with the right link type, load it into new sub-accounts, then refresh and push updates when you improve it. Contacts, conversations, appointments and integrations never transfer.
Once you've built a client setup that works, a snapshot lets you reuse it for the next client in the same niche, and even sell it. Done carelessly, it also copies the last client's name into everyone's emails. This guide follows HighLevel's own docs and adds the cleanup checklists agencies usually learn the hard way. 1Know what a snapshot copies (and what it doesn't)
Per HighLevel, a snapshot captures configuration, not customer records. It can include workflows, funnels and websites, calendars, forms, surveys, emails and templates, custom fields (including company custom fields), custom values, membership content, and more.
It does not transfer: contacts, appointments, conversations and messages, reputation data, live activity, Stripe connections, integrations and third-party connections, and a few others (for example assigned Voice AI phone numbers, private dashboards, and assets protected by another creator). Plan to reconnect those by hand.
2Start from a clean template account
HighLevel recommends starting from a clean source account. The safest habit: keep a separate "template" sub-account per niche and build improvements there, instead of snapshotting a live client account full of their data and one-off tweaks.
3Strip out client-specific details
Copy this checklist and work through it in the source account:
PRE-SNAPSHOT CLEANUP (source sub-account)
[ ] Duplicate the finished client account into a separate "template" sub-account, or build there from the start
[ ] Replace client name, phone, address, logo, colors with Custom Values (e.g. {{custom_values.business_name}})
[ ] Remove client-only workflows, test forms, old funnel steps and draft emails you don't want copied
[ ] Check email/SMS templates for hard-coded names, links, prices and signatures
[ ] Check calendars: team members, availability and confirmation messages
[ ] Rename assets clearly ("Lead - New Inquiry", not "Copy of test 2")
[ ] Write down what must be re-connected after loading (phone numbers, Stripe, integrations, domains)AI can speed up the template rewrite. Paste this into Claude:
I'm turning a GoHighLevel client build into a reusable snapshot for {niche} businesses.
Here are my email and SMS templates: {paste templates}
Rewrite them so nothing is specific to one client: replace business name, city, phone, website,
owner name and prices with placeholders written as {{custom_values.business_name}}, {{custom_values.city}}, etc.
Give me the list of custom values I need to create, then the cleaned templates.4Create the snapshot
- Go to Agency View > Account Snapshots and click + Create New Snapshot.
- Give it a name that says what it's for (e.g. "HVAC Lead Engine v1") and select the source sub-account.
- Pick assets: Select All, or expand each category and choose specific items.
- Click Create.
If some assets fail to load while you're choosing, HighLevel shows a Retry option. Labels can shift as HighLevel updates the UI; the official guide has the current screens.
5Load it into a new sub-account
Inside your own agency, you can apply the snapshot to new or existing sub-accounts. HighLevel notes that loading a snapshot into an existing account adds its items without deleting what's already there. Then run the post-load checklist:
POST-LOAD CHECKLIST (new sub-account)
[ ] Fill in every Custom Value for the new business
[ ] Connect phone number, email sending domain, Stripe and any integrations again
[ ] Assign users to calendars and workflow actions
[ ] Connect the website/funnel domain
[ ] Publish the workflows you want live (review each one first)
[ ] Submit a test lead and book a test appointment end to end6Share it with another agency (the right link type)
From the snapshot's menu you can generate a share link. HighLevel's link types:
- Permanent link: reusable by anyone with the URL.
- One-time link: works for one successful import. Best for a single buyer.
- Email link: single-use, sent to one recipient.
- Agency-restricted link: only agencies whose relationship numbers you enter.
- Sub-account-restricted link: only one designated sub-account.
The recipient imports it into their agency, then loads it into their sub-accounts. For paid sales, avoid permanent links, which can be passed around.
7Update it and push changes
Snapshots don't update on their own. When you improve the template account:
- In Account Snapshots, click the Refresh icon on the snapshot and choose the new or changed assets.
- Click Push Updates, pick the sub-accounts that loaded it, and choose which assets to push.
Careful: per HighLevel, pushing overwrites assets that came from the snapshot, and reverts manual edits a client made to them. Duplicated copies are left alone, and custom values aren't changed. Pushes only reach sub-accounts in your agency; external buyers need a new share link to re-import.
8Price and sell it
Before you set a price, see what's already out there: our GHL snapshot price comparison and snapshots by niche show what other sellers charge for the same niche, plus their refund and update terms. Tips:
- Sell an outcome ("missed-call text-back + review engine for HVAC"), not a list of 40 workflows.
- Publish clear refund and update terms. Many sellers don't, and buyers notice.
- Include a setup doc or video, using the post-load checklist above.
- Use one-time or restricted links per buyer. HighLevel also offers selling through its App Marketplace, which automatically applies Assets Protection.
- Offer done-for-you setup as an upsell. Many buyers would rather pay than configure it themselves.

Frequently asked questions
Does a GoHighLevel snapshot copy contacts?
No. HighLevel's docs say snapshots don't transfer contacts, appointments, conversations, messages, reputation data, Stripe connections or integrations. They copy configuration like workflows, funnels, calendars, forms and templates.
Will pushing a snapshot update overwrite my client's changes?
It can. Pushing overwrites assets that came from the snapshot and reverts manual edits to those assets if you include them. Duplicated assets aren't touched and custom values aren't changed, so have clients duplicate anything they customize.
Can I push updates to a buyer in another agency?
No. Push updates only reach sub-accounts in your own agency. External agencies need a new share link and have to re-import.
Can I load a snapshot into an account that already has assets?
Yes. According to HighLevel, loading a snapshot into an existing sub-account adds its items without deleting existing content. Still, test on a fresh sub-account first.
How much should I charge for a GHL snapshot?
It depends on the niche and what's included. Compare live prices from multiple sellers on GHL Weekly's snapshot comparison pages, and price against the setup time you save the buyer.
What's the safest link type for selling a snapshot?
A one-time link per buyer, or an agency-restricted link. Permanent links can be reused by anyone who has the URL.
